24th April 2011

Goi's offer to introduce us to the joys of slate was too good to miss, so off to Australia.
A quick look at the Looning the Tube area and we ploughed on to the Sidings level.

After warming up on Thomas the Tank (F4), Derailed (F4) and Side Line (F4), we went for the harder fair, N Gauge (F5+).
So hard in fact that Goi has to swap his trainer for his 5.10s.

So, does this look like the face of an F7 climber on an F5+ ... ?

A clean slab further to the right had a collection of nice routes: Sodor (F5+), The Mallard (F5+) and Rack and Pin (F5+).

Time for Goi to show his mettle. He and John abbed down to the level below (Railtrack).
First up was Here Today Gone Tomorrow (F6c+).
OK, the crux...
Check the belayer's not asleep...
Check the the last runner...
one last wimper...
... and go!

And then John on the same...

Next was Ancestral Vices (F6b).
Goi in a sea of slate.

Goi's now getting into his stride. Up a level (Fruitbat), he goes for Slatebite (F7a)

PlanA...

PlanB...

... and it all turns to custard...

John and I passed on that one.
Further to the left, the more amenable Gymnastic Fantastic (Fc+).

We passed on that one too.
